Plusko Storage Centre in Strand is 2 neighbouring Erven 23177 and 23178 on which garages will be built. The council sent back the drawing because there needed to be toilets and parking. According to the NBR, we have to have 2 female WC’s, 1 male WC, 2 Urinals and 2 WHB’s; and 7 parking bays. This drawing is the final drawing that was sent out to the council, which has finally been approved.
I was sent to the council to apply for a permanent departure of the building line. As you can see on the layout plan, the building line needs to be 3m from the setback line. Here the rule is that the setback line needs to be 7.18m from the centre of the road reserve. The toilets need to be built over the building line for maximum parking space. The parking bays are covered and also needed to be motivated to encroach on the building line. The dimensions of the road reserve and setback and building line had to be indicated on the plan, as well as the width of the driveway and gate, and then naturally, the sizes of the site and garages.
Project Paul Frost
Pictures taken on site for precedent
Drawing Reference: CD_001
This project was doen for Paul Frost. The house is in Stellenbosch, he wanted to revamp it into a student house.
The parking bays had to be indicated with enough space for driving. New brickwork had to be shown on the elevations and plan, and new sewerage connections and water pipes is shown. this council drawing was also used for the working drawing - see all the notes refering to numbers on the plans and elevations. The boundaries and building lines are shown, including the dimensions and positions of the new components to be added to existing buiding.

Life in the Office
The very small firm, Rise Architects, is run by the owner (Mr. Dawid Potgieter) and his draughting assistant (me).
Being the only employee, I get the opportunity to do a wide variety of jobs, namely: making coffee, visits to the city council, measuring up on site, answering the telephone, drawing up elevations and making models etc.
Working for Rise Architects has proved to be quite convenient – the office is but a 2minute walk from home.
All information is passed to me through Dawid. Before I start on a project, Dawid debriefs me on what I should do and how I should do it. Questions are welcome and well answered
